Saturday 9/20: Kshama Sawant, Bernie Sanders, Naomi Klein, Bill McKibben, Chris Hedges to Debate Strategy for the Environmental Movement

UPDATE: Live-stream the event here starting at 5pm Pacific Time, and a complete HD video of the proceedings will be posted by The Real News Network around 9:30pm Pacific Time. The event will also be live-tweeted from @socialistclay.

Saturday, September 20th, 8pm EST (5pm Pacific)

Kshama Sawant will join Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, Van Jones, activists Naomi Klein, Bill McKibben and Chris Hedges in New York City for a panel discussion to debate the way forward for the environmental movement.

Discussion will center on whether environmental activists should rely on the Democratic Party and look for solutions under capitalism, or if we should break from the Democratic establishment, support independent movements and fight for an alternative to capitalism.

Moderated by Brian Lehrer, WNYC, the conversation will serve as the precursor to Sunday’s People’s Climate March, which is expected to be the largest environmental demonstration in history.

Watch the live-stream online (link will be posted above as soon as it’s available) and if you are in Seattle, please join folks at Seattle City Hall (600 Fourth Ave) in the Bertha Knight Landes room for a live-stream event with additional environmental speakers. There will also be a solidarity march in Seattle starting at 1pm in Westlake Park on Sunday.
