Teamsters 763 Emergency Medical Technicians Thank You Letter!
Last summer, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) employed by the for-profit corporation AMR, and unionized with Teamsters 763, approached my Council office to help them in their fight for a fair contract. The EMTs were fed up of being underpaid and getting substandard healthcare and other benefits, and struggling for basic needs like housing, while AMR raked in massive profits annually.
My office and I, several labor unions, and community organizations stood proudly on the side of the workers at every step of the way. I put forward a resolution in support of the EMTs and their Teamster union local, which was passed unanimously by the City Council. My office continues to join the EMTs in their call for ALL emergency services to be taken into public ownership and for all EMTs to be paid real living wages and benefits as public-sector, unionized workers.
Thank you so much to the Teamsters 763 leadership for this letter to my office. We cherish it dearly, and look forward to continuing to work alongside you in the struggle for a powerful and united labor movement!
We will always stand unapologetically with workers organizing against the greed of corporations, like we did with the courageous EMTs in Teamsters Local 763.
